I’m Ken Williams, and I’ve lived on the Palouse since 1993. For more than three decades, I’ve lived, worked, and raised my family in this community. My life has been shaped by hard work, dedication, and a belief that strong communities depend on people willing to step forward and serve.
I attended the University of Idaho, where I earned a bachelor’s degree in education and a master’s degree in history while working full-time. I started as a part-time employee and worked my way up from custodian to foreperson to custodial training manager, and I continue to work at the university today, giving me a long-term perspective on how state decisions affect employees and students.
After earning my teaching degree, I spent 16 years substitute teaching in the Genesee School District while continuing to work nights at the university. Those experiences gave me a clear understanding of how schools function day to day, the challenges educators face, and the needs of students.
Education has always been central to my life. I’ve seen the impact that dedicated teachers and well-funded schools can have—not just on students, but on entire communities. I’ve also seen how decisions made at the state level affect classrooms in real ways, and that’s a big part of why I decided to run.
I come from a rural farm and military family, where service and responsibility were expected. That shaped how I view this role. I’m not running to be part of the political establishment—I’m running because I believe it’s my responsibility to contribute and help make things better for the people in this district.
I’ve also experienced the challenges families face outside the classroom. Last year when my daughter was battling lymphoma, I saw how access and affordability shape healthcare in very real ways. It reinforced how important it is that families can get the care they need where and when they need it without being overwhelmed by cost or uncertainty. I’ve also seen the effects of state funding decisions on employees and the communities that depend on them.
If elected, my focus will be on the issues that matter here: strengthening public education, improving access to affordable healthcare, and supporting economic opportunities so families can build stable lives in our communities. I believe in listening, respecting different perspectives, and focusing on solutions that work.
At the end of the day, I’m not a career politician. I’m someone who has crawled through mud to fix equipment, scrubbed toilets and floors, and done the work that keeps things running. I’ve worked in our schools, raised a family here, and lived the same challenges many people in this district face. I want to bring that perspective to Boise and make sure our communities have a voice in the decisions being made.
