Nez Perce County Democrats welcomed Terri Pickens, Democratic candidate for Idaho Governor, on Saturday, June 13 for an informal “meet and greet” and lunch at Brackenbury Square in downtown Lewiston. 35 people attended the early afternoon event, including several of our local candidates.
Terri spoke briefly to the crowd, but spent the most of her time talking to individuals and small groups, reflecting her commitment to be available to her constituents.
When talking about why she’s running for governor, Terri paints a clear picture
“It is time for change in Idaho. We are on the precipice of losing our democracy and the dangerous and cruel supermajority in Idaho politics is throwing away our rights and freedoms.“
She has articulated her position on six important issues that Idaho, and Idahoans, face:
- Economic Growth
- Workers’ Rights
- Public Education
- Public Lands
- Civil Rights
- Reproductive Rights.
Three local candidates also addressed the crowd with short remarks: Patrice Yeatter (District 7 Senate), Robin Weldy (District 6 Senate) and Loren Beauchamp (Nez Perce County Commission – District 1).
We will be doing an in-depth interview with Terri later this summer.
