On May 1, 2026 – May Day – over 5000 rallies, protest marches and other actions took place around the country as part of a “Nationwide General Strike” mobilized by a coalition of hundreds of organizations under the banner May Day Strong.
The theme for the day was “Our Money, Our Power”, articulated in three demands from MayDayStrong.org:
- Tax the Rich: Our families, not their fortunes, come first.
- No ICE. No war. No private army serving authoritarian power.
- Expand democracy, not corporate power. Hands off our vote.
The coalition encouraged people to stay home from work or school and to refrain from any shopping during the day.
A local rally, organized by LC Valley Indivisible, was held on Main Street in Lewiston, in front of the new county courthouse. Beth Aram, one of the local organizers, reported that over 100 people from around the LC Valley participated.
Here are a few photos from the rally.
