Communication Committee – What we did in 2025

The NPC Dems Communication Committee was organized in July, 2025. Original members of the group were Vickie Bray, Deena Heath, George Grenley, Molly Steele, and Mike Johnston. Since then, Deena and Vickie have left the group and we’ve been joined by Pete Gertonson and Robin Weldy.

Here’s a quick recap of what we accomplished in 2025

  • In our first meetings we defined our Mission Statement and Objectives for the team. https://npcdems.org/communications-committee-mission-and-objectives/.

  • We revitalized the NPC Dems website (npcdems.org) https://npcdems.org and began making improvements to the site. This work is ongoing.
  • We began publishing information on the website and social media in a much more deliberate fashion.
    • 80 new posts on the website (this work began in April and led to the formation of the committee)
    • 53 posts on FaceBook (32 new / 21 reposts)
  • We launched the NPC Dems Digest newsletter in August to improve our ability to get messages to local Democrats.
    • We grew circulation from 85 subscribers (August) to 136 (end of year).
    • 16 editions published (almost) every week
  • We collected input on issues important to community members, notably with the “Garbanzo Bean Poll” at the Nez Perce County Fair in September.
  • We organized and/or promoted community activities, including
    • Lewiston Roundup Parade (Sept)
    • Habitat for Humanity build (Nov)
    • Veterans Day Parade entry (Nov)
    • Volunteer Activity at Idaho Foodbank (Nov)
    • Cash Drive for CAP Food Bank (Dec)
  • We promoted local and regional events of interest to Democrats
    • ID/WA Democratic Women’s meetings
    • Protest rallies in Clarkston and Lewiston
    • Member of Congress Forum (August)
    • Democrats booth at Kamiah BBQ Days (August)
    • Democrats booth at Nez Perce County Fair (Sept)
    • Save Our Schools town halls in Lewiston, Moscow, and Grangeville (Sept)
    • Cecil B. Andrus Symposium – Coeur d’Alene (Oct)
  • We organized voter education events
    • City Election Candidates Forum (Oct)
    • Zoom with Kaylee Peterson (Nov)
    • Zoom with Terri Pickens (Dec)
  • In October we created a new category of posts on the website – “Tools for Action” – suggestions, best practices, tools, and useful links that you can use to Take Action Now!
  • In November several team members began doing research into the root causes of high housing costs (one of the big issues identified during the Garbanzo Bean Poll). We hope to have a series of reports on the topic later in 2026.

Looking ahead to 2026

The committee members are energized by the progress we’ve made and excited about the opportunities that lie ahead. We are always open to suggestions for how we can improve and we welcome others who’d like to join us in this important work.

If you’re interested in getting involved, have a suggestion, or just want to know more, send an email to info@npcdems.org or send us a note via the Contact form.
