Robin Weldy is running for Idaho Senate, District 6!

Editor’s Note: Robin Weldy of Lewiston has announced her candidacy for the District 6 Senate seat in the Idaho Legislature. Those of us on the Communications Committee know Robin as an energetic leader who approaches challenges with an open mind, an empathetic heart and a strong desire to make life better for her community. We look forward to championing her candidacy through the primary and into the general election in November.

In her Candidate Statement, Robin introduces herself and outlines her approach to the challenges facing Idahoans today.

Candidate Statement – Robin Weldy

My name is Robin Weldy, and I am honored to be a candidate for Idaho’s District 6 Senate. I grew up in Lewiston, became bilingual in Puerto Rico, and created a real estate business in Fort Lauderdale Florida.  Five years ago, I returned to Lewiston to retire and be with my family.

The current administration has made it imperative that we do all we can to save our democracy.  That may mean supporting a party we normally wouldn’t have or we don’t get everything that we wanted.  Let’s be willing to work on less important issues the next time around.  I am the candidate that welcomes both sides to come together for the common cause of saving our democracy.

Twenty-four years of experience in business has taught me the skills needed to be highly effective as Idaho District 6 Senator.  I have a deep understanding of how fragile financial stability can be and how imperative that stability is to govern successfully. My career has included roles such as bookkeeper, asset acquisitions, making sure materials were on site in a timely manner, training, hiring/firing staff, team management, quality control, budgeting, positive local government interactions, and asset liquidations.  As in business, all facets of our government have to work seamlessly to offer Idahoans a better quality of life.

I am known for my willingness to work hard on the job with leadership, dedication, and teamwork.  I am committed to bringing these values to my role as Idaho District 6 Senator.  My approach is to empower my staff making it clear how valuable they are in the team.  I believe this is essential for fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment.

There is much more that can be done for Idahoans than is currently being done.  If elected, my primary goals are to bring back financial stability to our great state of Idaho, protect our public lands, reinstate Women’s Health Rights, and create affordable housing for our families.  I believe that removing tax cuts for the wealthy, protecting public lands federally, giving women bodily autonomy, and increasing homestead exemptions will create significant progress for Idahoans.  I am particularly focused on addressing home affordability by turning vacant commercial property into low-income multi-units which could be a “win-win”.  We would be creating a larger tax base for our communities, lighten the tax burden for homeowners, and supplying the demand for affordable housing.

Thank you for considering my candidacy. I have the experience, passion and drive to successfully win and serve as Idaho District 6 Senator.  Thank you for your time and consideration.
