In mid-July, the Idaho Democratic Party asked local parties for help preparing personalized mailings to 45,000 unregistered likely Democrats, encouraging them to register and vote.
North Central Idaho Democrats responded by hosting two letter-stuffing parties where we prepared 1,000 packets for mailing. Each packet contained a pre-written letter with information about voting. We added a hand-written message to each one, then included a voter registration form, and a pre-addressed envelope for donations. The outer envelopes were hand-addressed and sealed.
Kamiah
On August 8, a group of 24 volunteers gathered at the Wa-A’Yas Community Center in Kamiah. In an hour and 45 minutes, they stuffed 500 letters. After the work was completed, they enjoyed a pizza lunch.
Lewiston
Just over a week later, on August 16, 36 volunteers met at the Lewiston Community Center where they knocked out 500 letters in an hour and 15 minutes. The group snacked on cookies, cake and sodas.
The majority of the letters went to persons in our area, making it especially important that our groups got involved.
All of the letters were boxed up and sent back to the IDP office in Boise. IDP will mail them because they get better bulk mailing rates than we can get locally.
Both events attracted local Democrats as well as a few from other surrounding counties. The atmosphere at each event was convivial, with frequent laughter and opportunities to get better acquainted with newcomers and old hands.
