Editor’s Note: As part of our ongoing effort to educate and inform voters, we have invited Democratic candidates running in the 2026 election to submit information about their campaigns and their stance on issues of importance to voters. The article below is from Patrice Yeatter, a candidate for Idaho State Senate in District 7. Patrice is suggesting a simple action we each can take to help protect mail-in voting.
As you probably know, Donald Trump is desperate to throw a wrench into US Postal Service operations, especially when it comes to mail-in voting. Neither he nor the Postal Service have any authority over elections, but that’s not stopping him. The American Postal Workers Union wants to send a strong nationwide message to our legislators through a postcard campaign that tells them, “Hands Off!” And that goes for any talk about privatization too.
All it takes from each person is 3 postcards. That’s all. Any kind of postcard will do. I used the GOTV cards that you can order cheaply on Amazon. Let’s flood our legislators’ offices with postcards. Imagine the effect that could have.
Here is a simple, short message you can put on the cards.
Dear _____________,
Our U.S. Postal Service has been a valued public service for 250 years and is especially trusted in the handling of mail-in election ballots. Although Donald Trump himself voted by mail, he has attacked this service as corrupt – a blatant falsehood.
Please oppose any measure to restrict mail-in voting. Too many Americans depend on it.
Thank you.
