Yeah. We’ve all been yelling at our TV’s. More often since January 20th.
But instead of ranting and raving, take a moment and consider putting that emotion to work. Channeling it into positive change.
How, you ask?
By deciding to run for office.
The opportunities
There are several, some right here in Nez Perce County, in 2026.
According to Pete Gertonson, the Chair of Nez Perce County Democrats, the primary role of county parties like ours is to “recruit candidates and get Democrats elected”. And with 2026 nearly upon us, we’re revving up our recruiting efforts.
Here are some of the offices that will be up for grabs next year:
Nez Perce County
- Coroner – currently held by Joshua Hall
- Prosecutor – currently held by Justin Coleman
- Sheriff – currently held by Bryce Scrimsher
- County Commission – (2 seats) – currently held by Doug Havens and Hannah Liedkie
Idaho Senate
- Dist 6 Senate – currently held by Daniel Foreman
- Dist 7 Senate – currently held by Cindy Carlson
Idaho House
- Dist 6 House – (2 seats) – currently held by Lori McCann and Brandon Mitchell
- Dist 7 House – (2 seats) – currently held by Kyle Harris and Charlie Shepherd
You’ve never run for office? Not a problem. There are lots of resources and training materials available from our local party, the Idaho Democratic Party, and the national Democratic Party. We’ll help you get started and will provide support and guidance throughout your campaign.
Like we said last week, it’s time to stand up, take a stand, and give voters a choice.
By putting yourself out there as a candidate, you become an alternative to “politics as usual”. You have a chance to make your voice heard and to make a positive impact on our community and our state.
