Guidelines for a Safe and Peaceful No Kings Day Rally

The guidelines below were developed by Becky Eklund and the team at Asotin County Democrats. We’re expecting a large crowd at the No Kings Day rally on October 18 and it will be important to keep things peaceful and safe.

Thank you for joining us in standing up for our shared values. In partnership with local law enforcement and out of respect for our community, we ask all participants to follow these important guidelines to ensure everyone’s safety and a successful event:

Commitment to Peaceful Participation

  • Our rally is peaceful and non-confrontational. Please stay calm and courteous, even when others may not be.
  • Avoid engaging with counter-protesters or agitators. Let our unity and message speak louder than any conflict.
  • Leave your weapons at home when you come to the rally.

Corner Captains & Crowd Flow

  • Keep sidewalks passable and avoid blocking entrances to local businesses.
  • Avoid crowding at corners to reduce the risk of bumping someone into the street. Spread out along the sidewalk for safety and visibility.
  • Only cross the street at crosswalks and with the crossing light to avoid injury and obstructing traffic.

Bullhorn Use – No Sirens

  • Bullhorns are welcome for chants and calls—but absolutely no sirens.
  • Sirens cause confusion and can create dangerous situations in intersections. If you know someone planning to bring a bullhorn with a siren setting, kindly ask them not to use it.
  • This is a key safety concern and violating this could prompt police involvement.

Law Enforcement Presence

  • Police may be nearby but plan to remain in the background. They are supportive and non-partisan, and they want us to have a successful, safe protest.
  • If any safety or emergency issues arise, contact your corner captain. Our team has the non-emergency police contact number and will manage communications directly.
  • Note: Corner captains will be wearing bright yellow vests.

De-escalation & Outside Agitators

  • Our leadership team is committed to clean, nonviolent conflict resolution. If you see tensions rising, alert a member of Asotin County Democrats or Nez Perce County Democrats.
  • There is concern that outside agitators may try to disrupt the event. Be vigilant, stay calm, and don’t engage. We’ll manage any disruptions appropriately.

Final Notes

  • We aim to deliver a respectful, powerful event that reflects our shared commitment to justice, peace, and community strength.
  • Thank you for being part of this. Your presence and peaceful participation are how we will make our rally more powerful.
