Democrats Will Pull for Public Education at Kamiah BBQ Days

Democrats in Kamiah will be out in force this Saturday, August 30, to demonstrate their support for public education during the Kamiah BBQ Days Parade. Several local Democrats will be wearing donkey ears and pulling a light wagon.  The “driver” will be an elder Nez Perce woman who will be dangling a carrot in front of them from a fly rod.  The theme of the entry is “Democrats Pull for Public Education”.

The organizers expect fifteen to twenty people will participate, but they would welcome more.  If you’re interested, please contact Larry Nims at idastone2@gmail.com.

Besides the parade entry, Democrats will also have a booth at the Kamiah BBQ Days event on Saturday.  They will be collecting signatures on two petitions:  The Reclaim Idaho “Not A Dollar More” petition opposing the use of public funds for private/religious schools, and a petition from Idahoans United for Women and Families to “Ban the Ban” and restore women’s rights to comprehensive reproductive health care.

Volunteers are needed at the booth during these shifts:

  • 9 am -10 am
  • 10 am -12 pm (Note: You’ll miss out on being in the parade during this shift)
  • 12 pm – 2 pm
  • 2 pm – 4 pm

If you can help at the booth, please call Kathy Dawes at 208-882-0940 and leave a message with your name and number.  You’ll get a call back with more details.

The parade entry is sponsored by the North-Central Idaho Democratic Coalition, a collaboration of Democrats from Lewis, Idaho, Clearwater, and Nez Perce Counties sharing resources funded by an Innovation Grant from the Idaho Democratic Party.
